Another good poem

Reading this poem almost seems like some people's impression of George W. Bush. Its just that the poem was written in the mid-1800s.

Stealing

Claire was in my office today and had a handful of bubblegum. I asked her to leave it on my desk while we went to another area and she said, "I don't want somebody to steal it."

I told her, "This is corporate America. They don't steal your bubblegum, they steal your soul."

A little Halloween fun

The House that gave sucky treats game

Make sure you give the Andy Warhol character the can of soup and give Strongbad (the guy in the mask) the bunny candy.

Have fun.

Funny Stuff

Roaming around the internet finding some funny stuff...

We cannot see the future. We cannot change the past. We can only live in the now with an eye towards gaining enough power in the future to wreak revenge on the son-of-a-bitch who screwed us in the past.

Dreaming frees the soul, energizes the spirit and allows you to do things that would get you thrown in jail if you really tried them.

Love means never having to say, "Does that twenty include the spanking?"

When it becomes a crime to love, you should probably consider dating outside the family.

If Life hands you lemons today, smile and give thanks. Then when Life isn't looking, give him a quick knee to the groin. That'll learn him.

They say a smile is a gift, which is free to the giver and precious to the recipient. But giving the finger is free, too, and I find it more personal and sincere.

Dawgs suck

ROTD

Rant of the Day--"Users are f-ing idiots. Corporate America is nothing more than a huge welfare system. The logo just shows the source of your food stamps. Damnit, I should have hit all those kids with a brick in kindergarten. Now, they're all in HR and management."

Thanks for the laugh, my friend. You know who you are. ;)

It all comes back to this....
It's just how we are

Thought-provoking poem

Is it better to fight for something noble and lose, or be victorious without any strong convictions?

Go Gators

Yeah, the Gators finally fired our loser coach who drove the program into the ground after only three years. This weekend, I'm heading up to Jax to take in the festivities of the Florida-Georgia game. I will not be going to the game since I vowed in 1984 to NEVER return to the game after suffering humiliating defeats every year I was a student and they finally won in 1984. As I partied on the field, prying up my piece of turf, I vowed never to return to the game, and I haven't. I have watched every one on TV but never entered the stadium. In the years since I made my vow, the Gators have gone 14-4 against the Dawgs. Prior to that, their record was 1-7 going back to the first year that I cared about the game--1976. I attribute their recent success to my absence.

I will go hang out and party with my fellow Gators, including my high school and college buddy Matt and former roommate, Deb and watch the game on TV. We may be at an RV parked outside the stadium that will have a satellite dish and a big screen TV. If the Gators start losing, I may need to drive away from the stadium.

After watching the game, we'll go to Bob and Brenda's annual Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza. It's so great to still have all my buds in Jax even though I've lived 350 miles away for the last 11 years.

The Florida-Georgia game is commonly referred to as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." I googled it and actually found it in an online dictionary. Its on the internet, it must be true.

New favorite song

New favorite song....for the moment. Great example of the lyrics and musical style working together to display a raw emotion.

Kings of Leon - Molly's Chambers

"Train up a child..

in the way she should go and when she is old, she will not depart from it."

Wise words from Proverbs that provide insight into a variety of parenting subjects. Today, Claire showed glimpses that I am training her up properly. We were running errands and listening to a mix CD I had made of some obscure stuff. "Desire" by Ryan Adams was playing. Its a stripped down sound featuring guitar, harmonica and raw vocals. After the song ended, she asked "Mom, play that again." No Kidz Bop or Britney Spears for my girl.

Later, she was riding her bike and I was rollerblading. I was telling her to go faster but she wouldn't so I decided I'd let her keep up with me. As soon as I started to pass her, she'd pick up the pace to make sure she stayed in the lead. Those hours watching the Tour de France over the summer have given her an understanding of the value of a good sprint. She'll be on the multi-speed mountain bike and we'll be riding out to the Everglades by next spring.

The girl has got it together and she's only 7.

More Cowbell

What the world needs now is.... more cowbell!

I love that SNL skit and think its great that it spawned its own website. Here's a link to the Windows Media Player version of
Blue Oyster Cult - Behind the Music SNL skit . Will Ferrell's fat, hairy stomach was never funnier.

New Music

I went on a virtual musical journey tonight, courtesy of a guy I met at a conference last week. My Aussie friend Luke told me about an Austrailan band called "Jet". I acquired some of their music and really like them. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" reminds me of The Strokes while "Take It or Leave It" and "Get Me Outta Here" has more of a traditional rock feel. With those good songs, why oh why, are they going to play this sappy piano ballad "Look What You've Done" when they're on Conan O'Brien?!?!?

I searched them on
www.musicplasma.com and saw them near "Kings of Leon" musically so I acquired some of their songs, too. More good stuff. After that, I went to their website www.kingsofleon.com to check some of their musical influences and saw a link for the bonnaroo festival--a three-day music festival in Tennessee that had Damien Rice, Ani DeFranco, David Byrne, Dave Matthews, Gov't Mule, Los Lobos and Robert Randolph & The Family Band (saw him open for John Mayer two years ago--good blues) among others performing last year. The 2003 show had Neil Young & Crazy Horse (seen them before--so great, you could feel the feedback in your chest and my ears buzzed for days!), Allman Brothers, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones (seen them too, great Jazz fusion band) , Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz (seen him, too. Fun live show.)

On Friday and Saturday, the music runs from noon-3AM. Last year, it was the three days before my birthday. If they have one in 2005, I think Amy and I will be going on a mother-daughter musical roadtrip. That will be a blast!

Time to enter the world of blogging. Right now, I'm feeling supremely bored with life in general. Maybe this new distraction will fill the void until my usual lust for life returns.
